Telepathology deals with the remote diagnosis of the disease using advanced digital technologies. Conventionally, the diseases are diagnosed histopathologically using microscope by oral pathologists. However, with telepathology, patient requiring histopathology report may consult oral pathologist and obtain their report remotely. It helps in issuing earliest possible reports to the patients at competitive prices, provide and obtain second opinion for challenging cases and in the exchange of expert opinions. It not only helps in patient care, but also aids in academia by case discussions, knowledge sharing and research. The unit consists of oral pahologists, general pathologist and oncopathologist, who cater to the regular as well as to the advanced molecular diagnostics of the disease.
The centre houses well equipped clinical area and microscopy room. It has special facilities like stereo microscope and research microscope along with camera attachment and software, that help in regular reporting, second opinions, facilitates interdepartmental and interinstitutional patient care and team work.
